To beer or not to beer?
To beer or not to beer?
Much as I hate to dwell on my need for a beer, this is getting to be a bit of a mission. Strangely enough, I was able to walk past the huge range of IPAs and other beers in Ingles this morning without the slightest pang, knowing I "couldn't have none of 'em." But where were the non-alcoholic beers? (Courtesy of someone's lobbyist, you are allowed to call any drink with less than 0.5% ABV "non-alcoholic".) Not one. Now it's fair to say that two of Asheville's top industries are beer making and hospitals so it's pretty reasonable to expect that the local shops would cater to people who have been told they can't drink beer in a quantity worth drinking or who have decided to quit to try to lose a few pounds. Talking of which, my weight is now down to 99.5 kg. Haven't weighed so little since I left college. Just noshed a great chunk of Susan's cherry (or non-cherry) strudel so I suspect I'm over the 100 kg mark again.Today's major triumph was once again courtesy of Cancer Care of NC. My insurance company had refused to cough up for my medication. So, being realistic, I'd said "Sod it - I'll pay anyway." At which point CCNC stepped into the ring and, blow me down, CVS phoned a couple of hours ago to say they'd got my prescription ready at about an eighth of the originally quoted price. I don't know how who managed it but $20 a month seems not unreasonable.
So now the only burning question facing me for the rest of the day is a two parter. (a) What's the difference between a roasting chicken and a baking chicken and (b) does it really take 3 to 3 1/2 hours to roast / bake a 6 pound chicken?
Other wonder discover of the day: one of my computer science students brought some organic turkey bacon to school today and offered me a lump. No hormones or other crap in it so I gave it a shot. Bloody brilliant. I wonder how much it costs and where you can get it.
Great news about the cost of your medication and the turkey bacon .....what is turkey bacon?
ReplyDeleteTurkey bacon is, I'm somewhat guessing, thin slices of turkey that have been baconised, whatever that is. No fat and it tastes great, even cold. You can also get turkey bacon that is made of chopped up bits - no so sure about that.
ReplyDeleteThink I'll give it a miss...mind you don't think it exists in the uk....I shall look up baconisation
