Little Old Lady Power (finally)
This will be a short post as it is past my bedtime and my laptop is playing silly buggers, deciding that charging the battery when it's plugged in is a dumb idea. This is my last night at Red Beach before I head to Waihi. I have felt moderately brain dead the last few days as I get near the end of another chemo cycle. It will be good to have a week off though I do wonder if the lab in Waihi will actually manage to send me my results this time.
The sea has not been at all inviting at the bottom of Jacobs Ladder the
last few days - much as I love a big surf on the beach, I am less enamoured in a rocky cove. So, given my mental and physical condition, I gave away my daily swim in exchange for a daily extended dork listening to the waves. This evening I took a long farewell walk into the teeth of a gale to say by for now to the local oyster catchers. I nearly made it to the bridge into Orewa but the tide wasn't quite out far enough for me to be able to do the rather tricky last bit on sand rather than much weathered slippery rocks.

"Little Old Lady Power?" I hear you cry. It's a reference to my Mum as she got on in years - she developed this strange knack for destroying things and I seem to be acquiring it. First I misjudged the length of my borrowed car, then had the DVD player pack up. Now my laptop charger has decided to discharge the battery even when the laptop is plugged in (touch plastic, I have found a most implausible solution on the internet to that).
Goodness knows what else I will wreck before the week is out. I have, however, fixed the problem of my mouse pointer going wherever it feels like going. I have disabled the touchpad. When I buy a new laptop, I will insist on one without a touchpad or a touch screen.
I move out tomorrow and plan to take a long time over the 2 1/2 hour drive to Georgia's place in Waihi. Not sure what I will do on the way other than visit a waterfall in the Hunuas. It'll be good to be in Waihi for the weekend (and beyond) and spend some time with the goils. With luck, I will feel a bit less drug-addled, too.
