And after all that exercise yesterday...
I went to bed at 9:30 yesterday and slept 9 straight hours before staggering blearily from my pit. Over a large plunger of coffee, I read my cousin Jill's Facebook rants about the horrors of those evil bloody coffee pods and felt inordinately virtuous. And more uninclined to do anything than I have felt in ages. Not sick, just bone idle. Didn't even bother rustling up a bizarre and complicated breakfast - just toast and Anathoth apricot jam (which I will plead guilty to guzzling off a knife straight out of the pot while the toast charred.) Sorry my organic milk and jam both came out of plastic pots.
Still brain dead, I headed for the deck with puzzle book in hand. Having failed to get a decent start on a couple of "Mind-melting" level puzzles, I turned the heat down, then again and again, arriving at the smaller "Very challenging" puzzles. I usually get stuck or mess up on about 20% of these Kenken puzzles but this morning I spent nearly 3 hours completely buggering up 6 of them so I decided it was time to do something else that required less brain power. My shopping list consisted of kippers, Vogel bread and organic silver top milk (damn both the expense and the cholesterol, say I) so, having generally tidied the place up, I looked for the car keys which were nowhere to be found. This led to the sad conclusion that they were in the car - and in the "ignition on" position. Which gave me a chance to meet a couple of neighbours. First I scrounged some jumper cables from Tony who offered me a jump from his Prius We were both a touch bemused to find that it doesn't have a battery in the engine compartment and neither of us felt like messing with the honking great battery in the boot. So off round the corner, first to scrounge a magic "quick jump" device they'd been given for Christmas. I broke the happy news to them that you have to charge those things before you can use them but the lady very generously brought her car (which had a dodgy battery) round to get the Audi going. And last time I saw her she was driving up Hibiscus Coast Highway so her battery obviously survived the experience.
I blundered my way eventually to Nonie's house to find that someone had very kindly nailed an end board to the deck and put weed mat down underneath. Splendid! Yillie was also there and we sat and yacked over several cups of tea. Dave & I originally made plans to go to a 20 over cricket game at Eden Park but, as it didn't start 7 and cost the same as a 1 day game, we decided we'd spend the cash on the 1 dayer against the poms next month. So now I know what I am doing on Feb 25 I can start planning what to do between Feb 8th, when I am kicked out of here, and then, I expect it to include a trip to Te Papa, the national museum in Wellington, and a whiff of Sulphur in Rotorua.
And I know you're curious - I got the kippers from Farro on the way home from Nonie's place, .risking the wrath of Auckland's ironically named "rush hour" to get there. Didn't like the look of their artisanal bread and completely forgot about the milk. So it's kippers with my last 3 slices of Vogel and a small glass of rather old milk for breakfast tomorrow. Oh the suffering!
But now it is getting too dark to see the keyboard so it must be bedtime.
