Day +1 : Ready to walk a few miles but...

Grumpy ole day here in Charlotte.  Hard to tell if it's raining, drizzling or foggy.  There's a nice wee park across the road from here and a few laps of that are probably called for.  It is being prepared for some kind of outdoor thing that involves having a couple of dozen port-a-bogs brought in.

It's a quiet day medically - Susan has sent all my various numbers to the people who monitor us remotely and my 3 o'clock hospital appointment is pretty much to confirm that they didn't kill me with the transfusion yesterday.  I feel a heck of a lot better than I did yesterday so I reckon they deserve a pat on the back for a job well done.

Talking of job I am immensely honoured to be offered the job of poll captain aka chief judge at our local polling station in February.  It's a job that carries huge responsibility and I look forward to training before the actual event.   I haven't been chief judge before but as this is about the tenth election I've worked on I think I pretty much have the hang of it.  I've had to deal with very few problems to date - one poll worker who panicked at the thought of touching a computer, one voter who refused to give us any info about who he was and more than a handful of people who have insisted on being more than mildly grumpy, possibly because they had to wait in line for a bit longer than anticipated.  Never had to call the police on anyone or polish off my old karate brown belt skills.  On the plus side there is always a pleasant feeling among the poll workers who have no difficulty setting their political preferences aside.  I may have to take my self off Facebook for a week or two.  For my Kiwi friends and family's information, voting here goes on for a couple of weeks or thereabouts so there is really no excuse for not bothering.  You can vote anywhere in your general area and there are voting papers available for your particular ward no matter where you choose to vote:  I don't know what happens if you are hundreds of miles from home and in another state.  I guess you need to vote by mail.  I refrain from commenting on how one party or the other tries to make it impossible for people they don't like to vote.  But I digress.

Time for a short walk.
